Living out the Great Commission

Missions are not just a part of our church; they are at the core of who we are.

Inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, we are dedicated to sharing the Gospel and making disciples, both in our local community and across the globe.

We equip each member of the church to discover their role in God's mission

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Spreading the message of salvation in our homes, to the distant corners of the world

It starts with a commitment to the Great Commission, understanding that it calls us to be active participants in God’s redemptive work in the world. Whether it’s in our neighborhoods or across continents, we strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus, bringing hope to all people.

Being Jesus to those closest to us

The mission field isn’t always across oceans or within distant lands; often, it begins right at our doorstep. We emphasize the importance of being missional-minded within our own lives—among our families, friends, and coworkers.

Our mission at home is about embodying the love and teachings of Jesus in our everyday interactions, always prepared to give an answer when asked to give the reason for the hope that we have.

Our responsibility to reflect Christ

Missions are more than just sharing the gospel; it’s about living it out through acts of kindness, understanding, and by being a reflection of Christ’s love. It’s in the everyday moments—at the dinner table, in the office, or during casual conversations.

Intentional relationships

Cultivate intentional relationships, using every opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s love through our actions and words

Equipping for the everyday

Help each other grow in faith, equipping each other with practical ways to share our faith naturally and effectively in our daily lives

Prayer and support

Overcome challenges when sharing our faith through a supportive community for prayer, encouragement, and guidance

Serving our communities

Our commitment to missions extends to our immediate communities. Cottonwood Church actively engages in local missions through community events, our onsite food pantry, and partnerships with local organizations like Choices Pregnancy Center and Restoration Advocates.

Our goal is to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our neighbors, demonstrating God’s love in tangible ways.

Being a light in our communities

Service is a powerful testimony of our faith. By addressing the immediate needs within our communities and standing alongside those in vulnerable situations, we can draw others closer to the hope found in Christ.

Food pantry

Located at our church, the food pantry serves as a vital resource for individuals and families in need

Local support

We partner with local groups to provide comprehensive support to those facing life’s challenges

Community events

We aim to create spaces where people can experience the warmth and love of our church family

Active participants in God's redemptive work in the world

Our mission efforts are deeply influenced by our understanding of the 10/40 Window, a term that refers to regions of the eastern hemisphere, plus the European and African part of the western hemisphere, located between 10 and 40 degrees north of the equator.

This area is home to some of the world’s highest levels of socioeconomic challenge and least access to Christian resources and communities.

Our response to the call

We believe that God calls us to bring light to the darkest places, offering hope and salvation through Jesus Christ.

Power of prayer

Mobilizing the church to pray specifically the people groups we’re called to, asking God to pave the way for His message

Partnerships

Collaborating with local churches and mission organizations to effectively minister to the spiritual and physical needs of their communities

Sending missionaries

Preparing and sending teams and individuals to serve in various capacities, from medical missions to teaching

Indigenous support

Financial and material support to those who are plant churches and spread the gospel in their own countries

Missions Vision

And He said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.'

The Church!
God’s method of revealing Himself and reaching the world is primarily through the local church! We will always seek to plant churches with indigenous leadership that have a vision for discipleship and reproducing themselves among their people.

Christ Followers!
We are committed to discipleship, both learning and growing in faith and helping those we minister to towards Christ-likeness.

Humble Servants!
We will be committed to stepping into the lives and communities of those God leads us to with respect and an attitude of serving.

Learners!
As disciples of Christ, we are learners. We will seek to learn and understand communities and peoples, their cultures and worldviews to better understand how the Church might thrive and grow in their context.

Evangelistic!
Jesus has commanded and invited us to carry the gospel to a lost and hurting world! We will live a life and build relationships that will allow us to model and share what it means to be a Christ follower and be committed to making disciples.

Giving!
We are a people who will joyfully give of our gifts, talents, resources, and our lives to God and to the church, as an offering toward the mission of making Him known wherever He may lead or invite us to be.

GET INVOLVED

Your role in God's global plan

Every member of the church has a unique role to play in God’s mission, from our homes and neighborhoods to the farthest corners of the earth.

Whether you’re called to serve locally or feel led to support missions abroad, there are numerous ways to get involved and make a tangible difference.

Volunteering and joining a missions team

  • Local missions: Engage in our community through our food pantry, support local organizations, or participate in community events. Your hands and heart can serve those in need right here in our neighborhood.
  • International missions: For those feeling called to serve beyond our borders, join one of our missions teams to the 10/40 Window and other areas around the world. Experience firsthand the impact of sharing God’s love across cultures and communities.

Giving

  • Financial support: Your financial contributions empower our missions efforts both locally and internationally. You can give directly to the church with “Missions” noted in your donation, or specify a team or individual mission trip in the memo line of your contribution.
  • Supporting specific needs: Occasionally, specific missions or projects may have unique needs, from supplies to funding for community projects. Stay informed through our Missions Information Center for opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways.

Prayer

  • Prayer support: The backbone of all mission work is prayer. We encourage our church family to support our missions through dedicated prayer—for the safety of our teams, the success of their endeavors, and the hearts of those they reach.
  • Prayer letters and notices: Stay connected with our mission efforts through prayer letters and notices available at the Missions Center. These resources provide updates and specific prayer requests from our missionaries and partners.
