Home / Ministries // Kindergarten – 6th Grade
Cottonwood KidMin at The Square is for all kindergarteners through 6th grade.
The mission God has us on is to declare the greatness of our great God to this generation— so they might put their confidence in Christ then we believe they will influence their generation and shape the next generation to impact the Church and impact eternity.
To define ministry lines, the rest of this refers mainly to kindergarten through sixth grade, but the overall convictions that drive us are for all of our kids.
We are convinced that:

We believe that every child that comes through our doors will follow Jesus at some point in their life.

The church’s role is to come alongside the parent and reinforce Biblical spiritual formation.

Like a seed, inside every kid is unlimited potential.

They have gifts and callings so we believe children should be a contributing part in the larger Cottonwood community.

No matter what the world or culture throws at them, if they hear and receive Biblical Truth before the world gives them counterfeit, they have a better chance at rejecting lies, and staying upright.

We will teach the Word in an age-appropriate way, asking leadership from the Holy Spirit, then eagerly watch the Word come to life in a child’s heart.

We expect kids to serve by sharing their faith, praying for their sphere, practicing their testimony, being generous, and for some even going on mission.
Kids can participate in age-appropriate activities, designed to build a strong foundation in Christ.
Here is a sample of the activities we offer throughout the year.
Meeting at 5:30 pm on Wednesday evenings, right before Awana, the Singin’ Saints Kids Choir gives kids an opportunity to perform once in the fall and once in the spring.
It’s Vacation Bible School (VBS) every Sunday morning throughout the summer! From the end of May through the middle of August, S4 replaces our Sunday Bible Class and Kid Quest Children’s Church, running from 9am to Noon.
Held throughout the year, our retreats and lock-ins give kids focused time by topic, age group, or interests.
Each summer we participate in Pre-Teen Camp, a 4-night summer camp designed for 3rd through 6th graders.
Each summer younger kinds, kindergarten through 3rd grade, can participate in a week-long day camp.
When you come to “The Square” the child needs to be dressed for play and the weather. Although our meeting rooms and classrooms are indoors, the play space is covered, but outdoors.
We encourage kids to play outside during any breaks and have basketball, gaga ball, hula hoops, jump rope, and more! Comfortable shoes are encouraged!
If your child can read, they will need a Bible. We want them to learn how to navigate their Bible while encouraging them to read the Word on their own. Most classes have Bibles to borrow, but if a child needs one, we have some on hand.
Like our preschool, we have a security tag system. When you come, you will need to sign in on the computer and print name tags for your child and a security tag that you will bring back when you check your child out.
Cottonwood’s trained Security Team has a presence on Wednesdays and Sundays to ensure the safety of our children.
If something happens to your child or your child gets sick, we will notify you with the numbers you provide us.

Children and Families Pastor
When you come in the foyer of “The Square” we will have someone on hand who can help you. All children are required to have a name tag and all parents/ guardians are required to have a security tag. Our volunteer will get your info and print you a tag. You keep the security tag and bring it back with you when you come to pick your child up.
We would prefer that parents sign their kids in because we need someone who can take responsibility for the tag and we want to know if there is a parent we can contact in case of emergency.
During the summer we do offer snacks to the kids and the rest of the time, the different classes may offer snack occasionally. If your child has a food allergy, please let us know so we can mark it on the tag.
We have many opportunities for volunteers. Classroom teachers and substitute teachers, AWANA leaders listening to verses, Kid’s Quest Volunteers and teachers, Children’s Choir kid wranglers and welcome team.
All of our volunteers have completed background checks and will do Child protection training every couple of years.
Although “The Square” is not conducive to wheelchair accessibility, we always make accommodations for special needs. Please give us a call and let us know what the need is.
The Bible is the main text for all of our classes. Our teachers will teach from curriculum sometimes, but by and large, teach only from the Bible what theme or topic they are studying for the class.
In AWANA, we use the AWANA curriculum.
