When God Gives His Spirit! pt2
Mike Fritscher
Resurrection Words of Christ: John 20:22 Receive the Holy Sprit!
When You Receive the Holy Spirit! John 20:19-23
John 20:22 And When He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.
Introduction : The promise of Peace, The Promise of Purpose, being sent by Jesus as Jesus is sent by the Father and the Promise of God’s Power! And that is found in receiving the Holy Spirit! He is God! And it’s the divine’s entrance into your life!
The Spirit Was Promised by Jesus in more than a few places. And in most of these places there is explanation in what He does! Who He is and what He does!
• You Receive Who He is and What He does! John 16:5-14
1. Life Giver: Always Giving New Life.
2. Advocate: You Have Constant Help!
He is called along side to help you. The Spirit Empowers You , Acts 1:8 Prays for You! Romans 8:18-29 And He Leads and Teaches You in Every Area!
3. Reprover: You Receive Conviction of Sin at the Proper Time!
(not just guilty conscience!)
John 16:8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment.
The word is reprove ! To tell a fault, to admonish, to bring to light. To Convict. To expose! He will always point who we are, what we lack and the consequences of that sin!
Sin, Righteousness and Judgment! It’s the Spirit of God coming and tells your fault. He Exposes that sin in light of His righteousness and like all sin, it must be judged! And He did that when Jesus bore those sins on His body on the cross. And this reproving of sin, is to produce a righteousness in our lives through faith, where the sentence of that Judgment no longer rests on us. I convict of sin, because that’s where sinners become saints. They don’t believe. But let me say this, conviction brings faith! I am going to the father, so the she Spirit will show you what it means to be righteous! So that you may not be judged. But know this, Judgment is coming.
2 Corinthians 5:10 for we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed or his deeds in the body, according to what he ahs done, whether good or bad.
God has always had a way to reprove His children – to convict us of our sin. Not all would respond properly!
The Difference in Saul and David:
Saul: 1 Samuel 15:16-24 – I did Obey the Voice of the Lord!
David: 2 Samuel 12:1-13 – David’s Response? It’s me! No Excuse!
The Holy Spirit is the Reprover. It is How God deals with us so that we might share in His Holiness! Hebrews 12:4-11 Therefore He corrects You! And in that correction will continue to Lead you into All Truth.
4. Guide! He will Lead You into All Truth! 13
He Leads you into all truth. He will speak to what is revealed. He will not speak What is the truth?
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me.
So He will always lead you to Jeus and His ways! The way of Christ, the Jesus Way! He will not lead you into the way of untruth. He will not violate His word! The word of God is Truth!
The Truth is His Word!
John 17:17 Sanctify them in the Truth, Your word is truth.
Notice: He will Lead you in the Way of Godliness!
Isaiah 30:21 And your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
Ezekiel 36:27 “And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances
5. Sanctifier: He Makes You Holy!
2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
• Walk By the Spirit! Galatians 5:16-24
Set Your Mind On the Spirit! Romans 8:5-7
Obey the Initial Prompting of the Spirit.
Philip – Acts 8:26
