Questions From Heaven: What’s That in Your Hand? Exodus 3, 4

Exodus 4:2 The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And he said, “A Staff.” 3 Then He said Throw it on the ground!

Background: Acts 7:20-29: Moses’ Life from Infancy to 80 Years Old!

Immediate Context: Exodus 3

1st God Appears in a Burning Bush that Cannot Be Consumed! Vs. 1-6

2nd God Gives Moses an Eternal Assignment: V. 10

3rd Moses Balks and Makes Excuses! I’m Not Your Man! Vs. 11-

“Who Am I”?

God Uses seemingly insignificant men and women to do Significant Things for the Kingdom of God!

“Who Are You? The Great I AM! V 14-

YaHWeH – I Am! Self existing One!

Yahweh Shamma: I Am Present: Yahweh Jireh: I Am Your Provider!
Yahweh Rohi: I Am Your Shepherd Yahweh Rophe: I Am Your Healer!

Notice: The Prophetic Outcome in the midst of His self-disqualification:

♣ I will Be With You! (12)
♣ I will Bring You Up Out of the affliction of Egypt to the Land flowing with Milk and Honey!
♣ They will Pay Heed to what You Say (18)
♣ I will grant your people favor in the Egyptians Eyes. (21)
♣ And You will go out Wealthy! (22)

Will Not Believe Me or Listen to Me!”
What’s That in Your Hand! It’s A Rod! A Staff! Throw it Down.

A couple of things:

1) You’re Done Shepherding!
2) Throw down the symbol of Your Shepherding! It’s no longer your Staff!

3) The Rod becomes a Snake as a Sign and a Wonder!
4) Pick it Up! Now it’s the Rod of God!

Final Excuse: Exodus 4:11-13
