Fulfilling All Righteousness! Matthew 3:13-17 The Baptism of Jesus!

1st The Context: John the Baptist’s Ministry Matthew 3:1-12

2nd The Word of Eternal Life: Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness”

Why Was Jesus Baptized? To Fulfill All Righteousness!

Righteousness: The Condition acceptable to God:

1. To Identify with sinful Man!

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are yet without sin.

2. To Point to His death, burial and resurrection.
3. To Point to Man’s death, burial and resurrection. Thus the salvation and Transformation of Man! Romans 6:1-

How Righteousness Comes to Unrighteous Man.

ϖ Have a Conviction of Sin and Sin’s Consequences! We All Sinned, Fall Short of His Glory and the wages of our sin is death! Separation From God!

Romans 5:6 – helpless, ungodly, sinners, enemies!

ϖ Believe What Jesus Did 2K Years ago, He did to Save You!

Romans 10:9 That if You confess with you mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, You will be saved. 10 For with the heart man believes resulting in righteousness and with mouth He confesses resulting in salvation!

Romans 4:16-25 –Abraham’s Faith Journey to Righteousness!

Romans 5:1 Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ!

3rd The Baptism of the Son: As He comes up from the water; and the heavens are opened: Trinity: The Spirit Comes and the Father Speaks!

1. The Anointing of the Spirit of God Comes Upon Him!

Luke 4:16-21 – Jesus reads from Isaiah 61:1-3 and says:

“Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing!”

Acts 1:8 You Shall Receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and even to the utter most parts of the earth!

2. The Word of God: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased!

Hebrews 11:6 Without faith it is impossible to please Him for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him!
