Guarding Your Holy Calling! 2 Timothy 1:3-14

2 Timothy 1:14 Guard through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.

V 12 Two committals. God commits something to us; we commit something to God! Two Keepings: God keeps and we have something to keep. Guard what has been entrusted to You, He entrusts you and You entrust to Him! He commits this to us, We commit something to God/ to you, you commit to. God Keeps, we keep! Two callings!

Notice What’s Been Entrusted! 2 Timothy 1:3-12 – The Treasure Entrusted to You!

A Sincere Faith, From a Godly Heritage! 5
The Powerful Gift of God! (Holy Spirit) 6
The Spirit of Power and love and Discipline 7

A Holy Calling of God!! 8-10

The Calling: The invitation given to you by God to Accept His salvation in His Kingdom, through Christ Jesus! It’s an invitation by the proclamation of the Gospel and an inward work of the Holy Spirit!

It’s an Upward Call to Know Jesus! Philippians 3:10 That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death! 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Do You Know Him? Or do you just know About Him?

It’s A Call Out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light! 1 Pet. 2:9-12

Are You in the Light? Or still in the Darkness?

It’s a Call to the Whole of Salvation! Romans 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the Image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 And these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

Is Your Life Changing? Transformed and Transforming into the likeness of Our God and Savior and Jesus!

It’s A Holy Calling, A Calling to Practical Holiness in this Life!

Holy: Pure, Clean, free from defilement of sin, idolatry and all that’s unsacred. That which is dedicated to God. To be set apart. Ever increasing lifestyle of righteousness. Sanctified:

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance. 15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior, 16 Because it is written, You shall be Holy for I am Holy!

1 Thessalonians 4:7 For God has not called us for he purpose of impurity but in sanctification!

Notice other Words: Purposes, Grace, Standard: This is the treasure!

So! IN the context of the text to Timothy, I’m suggesting, that we Guard this Holy Calling, this call to Holiness, this treasure of the work of God, which has been entrusted to us! Entrusted to You! And the Question: How do we Guard it? How do we protect it! To guard is not just a passive waiting for something to happen. It’s active, offensive:

Guarding This Great Treasure of Your Holy Calling! Hebrews 12:12-17

1st Guard Holiness By Pursuing This Holiness! V 14

Pursue: To run swiftly in order to catch a person or a thing, to run after. To press on, like a race where you are running swiftly to reach the finish line. Like you life depended on it. To seek after eagerly, earnestly endeavoring to acquire.

A Race, A Hunt, A Chase. All to catch the prize, the prey, the one who needs to be caught!

According to His Purpose and Grace!

To Come Short: To come late – to be left behind – to fail to reach the goal – to be inferior in power – influence and rank –

This Is Saving Grace! Ephesians 2:8-10

This Is Discipling Grace! Titus 2:11-14

This Is Empowering Grace! 2 Corinthians 12:7

3rd See to it that no Root of Bitterness Springs Up in Your Life! 15

4th See to It That You Never Trade the Eternal for the Temporal: V 16-17
